A Prayer for Animals by Albert
Schweitzer
Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our
friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any
that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that
must be put to death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for
those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and
kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to
share the blessings of the merciful.

would I do without you, My precious, furry friend?.. Part mischief,
but all blessing, and faithful to the end! You look at me with eyes
of love, You never hold a grudge... You think I’m far too wonderful
to criticize or judge. It seems your greatest joy in life is
being close to me... I think God knew how comforting your warm,
soft fur would be. I know you think you’re human, but I’m glad it
isn’t true... The world would be a nicer place if folks were more
like you! A few short years are all we have, one day we’ll have to
part... But you, my pet, will always have a place within my
heart.
